A Coin Puzzle

An even number of coins of different denominations are placed in a row. Two players will take turns to select one coin, which will be taken from one of the two ends, at their turn. They will take turns till all the coins have been collected. The person having more total amount in the end will be the winner. Show that there is a strategy for the first player to always ensure that he will either win or draw (i.e. he will never lose)

place coin of higher denominations at odd places and pick up first coin..

Just want to confirm whether he can also assure the win when one player picks a coin from one end and the other player from the other side?
